If you are into CrossFit, then you know that there are some tools and pieces of equipment that we always have on us while we’re at the gym. For me, you would never find my gym bag without a speed rope, a paleo protein bar, ear buds, a towel, and a reusable water bottle.
Let’s throw in an extra shirt into the bag as well because more often than not, I look like I jumped into a swimming pool of sweat and tears after my WODs.
The point is that there are some pieces of gear and equipment that we simply can’t go to the box without. To add to our family of sh*t we keep in our gym bags, we have: Strength Wraps.
WHY WE LOVE STRENGTH WRAPS:
1) WRIST SUPPORT
The support they give to your wrists is unlike any other wrap I’ve tried before. The 3” wide coverage gives you the added support for lifts that place your wrists in compromising situations. The support begins at the bottom of your hand and extends past your wrist. The firmness is solid throughout and not focused on a targeted portion of your wrist.
2) FULL RANGE OF MOTION
These wraps do not get in the way. That means you don’t have to remove them as you move from one exercise to the next in a WOD. You can keep them on during pull-ups and pushups and they won’t be cumbersome.
3) EASY TO ADJUST IN THE MIDDLE OF A WOD
The transition between tight and loose is quick and easy. All you need to do is give yourself a little Indian burn. The tighter you want the support, the more you twist. Twist the opposite direction to make it looser.
4) PERFECT FOR OLY LIFTS
Strength wraps make Overhead Squats, Cleans, and Squats a lot more comfortable. These Strength Wraps feel very secure & complete.
5) GREAT FOR NEWBIES
In CrossFit, you will develop strong wrists, but starting out, they may not be up to par for some OLY lifts. Using Strength Wraps will help with wrist stability allowing you to focus on proper form.
6) LOOKS AWESOME
They come in every color and pattern known to man. For the ladies, you can get a matching one for every gym outfit. For the guys, one is good enough.
7) MACHINE WASHABLE
If you tend to sweat a lot, these make a great replacement for sweat bands. Just like sweat bands, you need to wash them after every use. Luckily, you can toss Strength Wraps right into the washer after every use if need be.
STRENGTH WRAPS TUTORIAL:
I recommend that you adjust the tightness to a level that gives you a nice balance between solid wrist support and wrist mobility. Not super tight, but tight to the point where they do not hinder your movements should you do burpees.
I found that sometimes, the string that holds it together may unravel if you attempt to over adjust it during a workout.
If you are looking for some extra wrist support, Strength Wraps are worth your investment. Not only do they make your workouts more comfortable, they look cool to boot.
On a more personal side, these have done wonders for my OH squat. I first blamed the slight wrist pain on my form. After getting a second opinion, there was nothing wrong with my form. Since I’ve picked up a wrap, wrist pain is simply an afterthought.
