Are You Over Training?

Picture this: plugging in your cell phone, laptop, your flat iron, or anything else you can think of and your electricity blows out. What you have just done was use every possible outlet in your home and it became overwhelmed and shut down. Now picture spending 7 days at the gym, working a full time job, being a parent, attending school, and being in a committed relationship. You may not notice, but all of this takes a toll on your body physically and mentally, and your Central Nervous System can weaken from over stressing. All of this can lead to numerous over training symptoms. “Over training happens when you perform more training than your body can recover from.” Here are 3 easy ways to know if you are over training.

1. Lack of Motivation

It is a given that we all will lose motivation at one point or another, even in things that we have the most passion for. It’s not just you, it is your body telling you something. Your body is telling you to take a step back because you find yourself struggling more to go to the gym than not. You will find yourself getting sick more often and feeling sluggish all day. Is your nutrition on point? Are you Hydrating as much as you should throughout the day? Are you getting enough sleep? If you answered yes to at least 2 of those question then you are more than likely over training your body inside the gym.

2. You Become Restless and Lose Focus

If you are lacking the amount of sleep needed each night for recovery, your body starts to become restless, which makes it even harder to find yourself back to the most adequate sleep routine. You cannot fully recover without sleep, and without fully recovering, the chances of seeing consistent gains are next to impossible. Have you ever found yourself in a position where you are gaining more fat, but working out more than ever and eating all the right foods? The answer is simple: you are not getting the amount of sleep that is needed for your muscles to be ready for the next training session. Don’t eat away at your muscles when simply getting proper rest is your answer!

3. Chronic Soreness

A lot of people who join crossfit become “addicted” right away and want or need to go 7 days a week. Without realizing, they discover themselves becoming more and more sore, as well as having a recurring soreness in their joints, bones or limbs. In fact, a lot of CrossFitters in general find themselves working out 7 days a week, whether they are a beginner or not. Ask yourself this: “Am I feeling pain in a specific location over and over again for not just days, but weeks?” If your answer is yes, then you may be over training your body.

Allowing yourself to take notice of the pressure you place on your body through CrossFit will only save you from over training. Taking the precautionary steps can prevent major injuries down the road. Don’t wait until it’s too late and you find yourself out for weeks or months at a time. Listen to what your body is saying through your sudden lack of motivation, your restlessness and inability to focus, and your constant soreness.  You will get a lot further in the fitness world by listening to what YOUR body has to say to you!
